Auntie Te's, formerly of Annandale, now open in Merrifield
Auntie Te’s, the popular consignment boutique that had been in the Bradlick Shopping Center for a decade, reopened June 13 in its new location, at 2931-B Eskridge Road in Merrifield, behind the Mosaic District.
The owner, Theresa Cizmar, invites the public to a Grand Opening Celebration this weekend. There will be special sales, prizes, giveaways, raffles, and refreshments. The shop will be open 10 a.m-6 p.m. on Friday, June 24; 10-5 on Saturday; and noon-5 on Sunday.
The front room in the new shop features designer clothing and purses, jewelry, and new items from the Luxi brand, including rompers, summer dresses, and off-the-shoulder blouses.
Auntie Te's offers jewelry and other accessories, as well as clothing. In the back room, there are more well-curated outfits, shoes, and accessories – plus the disco ball that Cizmar has hung in her previous shops. Cizmar plans to sell more furniture when additional warehouse space in the rear becomes available.
Auntie Te’s left Bradlick Shopping Center because of the high rents and parking conflicts, especially on Fridays when the overflow from the nearby mosque filled the lot, she says. The rent for the Eskridge place is just over half what it was for the same size store at Bradlick, and there’s plenty of parking.
Auntie Te’s celebrated 30 years in business in May. The store was in Heritage Mall for 10 years (in two locations), then in two locations in the Ravensworth Shopping Center before spending 10 years in the Bradlick Shopping Center.
At the new shop, Cizmar has set a stricter policy on consignments. For one thing, she doesn’t accept skirts any more, as they don’t sell. What she wants are more designer purses.
If you’re interested in consigning something, call 703-321-9363 to make an appointment. Clothing must be brand-name and in excellent condition, pressed, on hangers, and not more than three years old. The proceeds are split 50-50. Items unsold after 60 days are donated to charity. Potential consignors can bring four items on Thursdays, 5-8 p.m., without an appointment.
